1. What difference is there between UVA and UVB rays? What are the effects of different radiation types?
They have different wave lengths, which produces a different penetration and effects on the skin.
2. What does the SPF number correspond to exactly?
The SPF is a factor that has to be individualised to each individual. If a person knows that without solar protection she can be in the sun without risk of solar erythema for 10 minutes, with a SPF 5 photoprotector she can be 50 minutes. But on another person who can be 5 minutes without risk, the SPF 5 solar protector will only protect her for 25 minutes.
3. If I use a facial protector with SPF 30 and then I apply a makeup foundation with SPF 20 protection does the protection add up and it is an SPF 50?
No. Each product has a specific SPF and they don’t add up when applying them one after the other. The one with more protection prevails, in this case SPF 30.
4. Does the SPF also protect against UVA rays? How to “read” correctly a solar label?
The SPF is an indicator of protection against UVB rays exclusively. Currently the maximum authorised commercially is 50+. For protection against UVA rays there are different methods.
In Germaine de Capuccini we use the COLIPA method: In vitro test: Appears indicated in the container of the product with the UVA seal. This seal is assigned to the solar protectors whose protection capacity against UVA is at least a third of the protective capacity of the UVB.
5. The quality of the SPF factor of the photoprotectors is the same in all brands?
If a product claims a specific SPF, it has been determined correctly, carrying out an in vivo test. There are brands that apart from the SPF include new solar technologies to strengthen the protection.
Germaine de Capuccini includes STM-CELL SUN PREVENTION in is new protectors, a powerful system that prevents and repairs the damage produced by UV rays in the skin’s stem cells. It stimulates its mechanisms of self-defence and self-repair to maintain intact its capacity to regenerate and delay its photoageing process. Also, it still includes SPOT BALANCE SYSTEM that effectively corrects and avoids sun darkspots.
6. Is a special photoprotection recommended during pregnancy?
Due to hormonal changes during pregnancy there is more tendency for hyperpigmentation of the melasma type to appear. For this reason if the solar protection is always essential, during pregnancy it is even more. There are light formulas to use daily, like the ADVANCED ANTI-AGEING SUN EMULSION SPF50 that also achieves a matt finish with no oily residues, or the SUN CC CREAM SPF 50 that also includes colour. If the skin is especially intolerant we recommend the HIGH PROTECTION AND COMFORT FLUID EMULSION SPF SPF 50+ for face and body.
7. Can I use the body protector on the face?
There are specific products for face, body or both. Generally the difference lies in the different textures. We use the photoprotector on the face and body when the container indicates it. If we use on the face a specific product for the body it could be too oily and produce excess oil and the appearance of spots, for example, as the specific formulas for the body contain more emollient ingredients and oils to maintain the hydration.
8. Can the fragrances in solar creams produce adverse reactions under the sun?
In Germaine de Capuccini solar protectors do not contain in their formula fragrance or any substance with photosensitising capacity.
9. Should we use aftersun cream even though there is no sunburn or reddening on the skin?
We can use aftersun if we want to comfort the skin after sun exposure even though there is no sun erythema. Aftersun products like ICY PREASURE, are designed to repair, protect and provide well-being for the skin in case of overexposure to the sun, but are not substitutes for the usual facial and body treatments.
10. Can I use the solar protector that was left from last year?
It is not recommendable. You have to take into account that it is a product that has been exposed to high temperatures, that may have contacted sea water or water from the swimming pool, contain sand residues, etc. So it may be altered and have lost part of its main properties.
11. Is the solar protection cream only indicated for sunbathing?
No. It should be applied whenever we are exposed to the sun, like for example a day outdoors, when practising outdoor sports, etc.
The latest generation formulas, like those of GOLDEN CARESSE, are ultra-light and very comfortable, without white residues and with a texture with “naked skin” effect that we can use the 365 days of the year.
12. Which is my skin phototype?
